Shweta Shangari & Moglys Gurukul
Shweta Shangari is a co-founder of the wonderful learning platform
called Moglys Gurukul. The other founders are Gayatri Luthra, Praketa Luthra,
Mridu Sood and Ruchi Mitroo.
It was Gayatri Luthra and her sister who were the real brains behind Moglys. Being moms of toddlers, they discovered a void of value-based learning for children. Both were well versed with the scriptures from Hindu mythology as well as with the Gita, Bhagwatam, Quran, Bible and Granth Sahib. They wanted to create a place where children could learn about these important stories while attempting to understand their own self and becoming more independent in thought and action.
Moglys Gurukul is based
on the premise that children need to learn the art of going within rather than
seeking solutions externally. The teachers at Moglys believe that as human
beings, each of us has the power to heal ourselves from within. In today’s
world of gadget dependence and instant gratification, Moglys stands as an oasis
of calmness and age-old goodness.
When Shweta was
introduced to Moglys, she instantly connected with its ideology and joined the
team without hesitation. The idea of introducing young children to mythology in
a fun way was unique and appealed to her immediately. The team, none of whom
were teachers, brainstormed and created the curriculum. As Shweta says, she
still experiences the same joy in welcoming children with their signature
Namaste song which she used to nine years ago when she started.
One of the main challenges the team faced was marketing the program. Because of its uniqueness, many parents were skeptical about its effectiveness. In addition, most of the team was working in corporates throughout the week, leaving them only weekends to take classes in rented premises till they finally got their own place in Gurugram. Moglys Gurukul was officially established in 2011 and Shweta was the first one to quit her job to join in full time. Over the years through word of mouth, mommy groups, Facebook and Instagram, Moglys Gurukul has become a well-known platform, though Shweta feels they still have a long way to go. Her aim to make Moglys a household name in the coming years.
Moglys has expanded into
several sub-categories such as the Moglys Farm which allows adults and children
to experience the delight of farm life with live animals and the Moglys School
program which acts as a pre-school for young children before they enter into
formal schooling.
For Shweta the sweetest
moments are when she’s approached by parents thanking Moglys for the many
little changes it brought about in their lives. Validation comes in the form of
younger siblings following the footsteps of their older siblings in joining
Moglys classes. Over the years,
Shweta recounts several incidents which make her proud and happy to have made a
difference in the life of children. Shweta strongly believes that instilling
values from a young age lays a strong emotional and mental foundation for
children.
Apart from Moglys, Shweta enjoys reading and dancing whenever she gets a chance. She has a 4-year-old who has been enjoying Moglys classes since their conception. Shweta recalls that she was playing a lead role in one of the Moglys Krishna plays when she discovered she was expecting!
