Alka Kapur & Plantpure

Alka was working full time till she had her son in 1991. She decided to take a sabbatical to be able to spend as much as possible with her baby.

Alka always believed in natural products. She strongly felt that long term use of products containing chemicals could prove to be harmful in the long run. A chance meeting with a Japanese lady, selling combinations of henna, indigo and hibiscus oil in Japan to cover grey hair made Alka think. She tried the combination herself and was so pleased with the results that she decided to introduce this product to others. Alka also felt that there was a huge market in India for such natural products.

She began researching various options for plant based, natural products. She followed this through with meticulously designing her packaging and thus was born Plantpure. Being a mompreneur was what Alka enjoyed the most; the work kept her busy and she had the flexibility to spend ample time with her children.

The biggest challenge Alka faced was sourcing a pure product. She did a lot of legwork to ensure that the quality of the product was optimum. She was determined only to put forth products which had passed the most stringent of quality checks. Her second challenge was marketing the products. She began by talking about the products among friends and family and once people started using the products, word soon spread and orders started coming in.

Alka chose the name Plantpure keeping in mind that the ingredients used were plant based and chemical free. She wanted a simple name that would convey the essence of the product.

Apart from her work and kids, Alka loves to dance and travel. She has a big circle of friends and enjoys socialising.
