Reena and Soappitara

Reena is a mom to a wonderful daughter who is a young adult and she is the force and inspiration behind Reena realising her potential to pursue her creative passion and turn it into a business. Reena considers herself to be a proud Mompreneur in the true sense of the word!

Reena was always creatively inclined towards art. Being a primary teacher in the early years of her career gave her a lot of opportunity to engage young kids through her creative skills. When her daughter was born, Reena gave up full time work to be with her daughter. She then took up a dedicated job at proofreading books which she pursued for several years.

As the years passed by and Reena’s daughter grew up, she began encouraging Reena to follow her passion and get into something creative. Her daughter would often refer to Reena as “mommy magician” because she believed Reena had the artistic skills to create magical stuff with her hands.

Reena was always drawn to handmade products and fragrances. One day Reena heard about someone making beautiful handmade soaps. And suddenly, Reena knew exactly what she wanted to do. She was inspired to create beautiful handmade soaps in fun shapes, which would be filled with the goodness of essential oils.

Reena realised she would need to expand her knowledge about how to produce the best quality soaps with natural ingredients. With this in mind, she began pursuing courses and today she is a certified soap maker.

At Soappitara, each bar of soap is handmade with love and ingredients which are gentle on the skin. The beauty of the soaps lies in the fact that they are suitable for all ages and skin types. As Reena began immersing herself in soap making she started to have a lot of fun experimenting with different shapes. From 3D flower pots to alphabets to shirts to mermaids; you name it and Soappitara will create the design!’

When Reena was thinking of a name for her business, she came across the word Pitara which means a magical box filled with amazing, magical stuff that we treasure. With Soappitara, Reena aspires to give her customers a feeling of amazement and excitement as they open a treasure box filled with aroma filled soap bars!

Like all Mompreneurs, one of the main challenges Reena faced was to maintain a work life balance. The second challenge was to collect sufficient finance because even setting up a small business needed a substantial amount of capital. But Reena persevered and has learned how to handle the financial aspects of her business. Social media visibility is another ongoing challenge. There always seems to be a dearth of time to keep up with regular posts about her products.

Today, despite the business being in a fledgling state, Reena is overwhelmed with the response from not just friends and family but also clients who place orders through word of mouth and seeing her work on social media.

Reena aims at making bathing an experience in itself for her customers and their loved ones, by crafting beautifully shaped soap bars with the benefits of essential oils at the best possible prices. Soappitara’s tagline is ‘May Your Life Be Filled with the Fragrances of the Divine’.

Apart from staying busy with her daughter and Soappitara, Reena enjoys writing poems, sketching, painting and reading.

She is thankful to her daughter who is her staunchest admirer and biggest critic, along with being her Instagram handler!
