From the time she completed her fashion course at Parsons, Chitwan knew that designer clothing was the line she wanted to get into. She started with womenswear in 2011 and then ventured into menswear in 2016. Whenever Chitwan visited the fabric markets for men’s fabrics, she would find herself staring at the cute kids’ fabrics and would wish that she could do something in that line. She would pick up fabrics for her son’s nightwear and shirts and they turned out really well; every time he wore them, her family would encourage her to consider venturing into this as a side business and gauge the response. Chitwan began small in 2020 and then there was no looking back. This isn’t a side business anymore. Chitwan is extremely passionate about it and doing kids' wear in particular makes her extremely happy. Moreover, she has discovered a staunch support system in the form of her mommy clients. It ...

Aarti Sachdev & EMBER

Image
Aarti always dreamed of doing something of her own and creating a brand which would belong to her. She wasn’t sure what this would be but she knew that she wanted to create magic in her life.  Aarti was always attracted to fragrances of all kinds- floral, citrus, woody, spicy, to name a few! She loved exploring the myriad of fragrances available and understanding how different environments could be enhanced by choosing the right fragrance. Needless to say, Aarti ensured that her surroundings always smelt nice! Ember was born effortlessly. One fine morning Aarti got up and decided to venture into the arena of Incense and Dhoop sticks. Her interest meant that she had a sound knowledge base about these products and she wanted to utilise that alongside the contacts she had built over the years, to start her own enterprise. While it was relatively simple to stock the products...

Anu Jain & Meraki by a.n.s.

Image
Anu had always been inclined towards sketching, drawing and painting since her childhood while her mother was inclined towards clothes and fashion. So, it was no surprise when Anu ended up taking fashion design as a subject in 11 th grade. Anu always had a lot of questions in her mind. What was she here? What was the purpose of her life? What could she do which would be different from the norm? She had a deep desire to prove something to herself. After completing her graduation, Anu took admission in Pearl Academy of Fashion for a one-year postgraduate course in Fashion Merchandising. Alongside this she started her own workshop at Shahpur Jat. Anu handled everything; from finding the place for the workshop to setting up a team of tailors, to buying machines and raw materials. Her parents were a huge support for her during this time. Looking back, Anu wonders how she managed and she is proud of the fact that...

Deepa Chopra Sharma & Bhaatkhande Sangit Vidyalaya

Image
Bhaatkhande Sangit Vidyalaya was established by Deepa’s grandfather. Her father continued the legacy by putting in immense hard work and dedication to bring the institute to where it stands today. Deepa and her sisters, Pooja and Neetu, are the 3 rd generation taking forward this lineage and they consider themselves lucky to have been blessed with the responsibility of this legacy. Bhaatkhande Sangit Vidyalaya was established in 1939 in Rangoon, Burma. After the second World War, the institute found itself handicapped in its functioning. It left behind a skeleton in Burma and made a fresh start in Delhi. The management rented out premises in different schools to establish a firm footing. Finally in the 1980’s, the Government allotted some land to the institute. But this was just the beginning of the many challenges to come; primary being the fund raising required to build the institute. After years of struggle and hardships, the Institute today stands ...

Sudhi Dhall

Image
Sudhi was working ever since she left college. She did an MBA and got a job in Gurgaon, where she worked for almost 15 years.  Everything was good, but Sudhi always felt something was missing. She had a stable, good paying job, a nice husband and a loving daughter. Yet, she used to feel something is not complete. When the entire country went into lockdown in March 2020, Sudhi’s self-work journey began. Everything outside was closed but the online world opened up for her. She started pursuing courses on anything she wanted to learn about. These included courses on baking, makeup, gardening, exercise, how to make YouTube videos and more.  This led her to a Life Coaching Certification in 2021; something she joined to become a better person.  During the program, she began seeing changes in herself, which made her more confident. She started healing herself, and understood the importance of self-love. All this gave her a desire to help others who might feel lost ...

Karishma Khosla & Dr. Khosla’s Dental Clinic

Image
Karishma has always been passionate about healthcare and found dentistry to be the right fit for her. Helping relieve someone’s pain or giving them the confidence to eat, speak and smile comfortably is something she feels passionately about.   Karishma started out working as a consultant in a dental clinic but soon fell into the role of part business owner. Her journey into entrepreneurship was quite accidental!   Karishma soon discovered there was a lot of difference in working for someone vs. handling a business. Some of her major challenges centered around staff management; she found that hiring and retaining good people was tough. It was also a challenge to juggle time between work, home and kids. Time always seemed short to complete all the tasks that each day brought.   Another challenge that Karishma faced was never being able to ‘switch off’ from work. Being dedicated toward...

Jasjit Chugh and Green Spell

Image
Jasjit had been a healer for 28 years and Green Spell was an extension of healing with symbols, to support her gardening and her daughter’s artistic work of Resin figurines. As soon as Jasjit started, Covid hit which brought everything to a standstill. Another challenge was that a lot of people feel they are not good with plants so they don’t invest in them. Marketing for plants is difficult because everyone likes to shop for items like clothes, jewellery, shoes, bags or food; plants are usually last on the list. I wanted a name that implied the magic a garden and the symbols it can create, which heals and nurtures a person as they begin to nurture it. Green Spell conveys all this. Wick Chimes means the moods around the clock and the colours of the Sky and chakras associated with the fragrance used in candles.  Jasjit enjoys gardening and playing golf, both of which are close to the “green.” Follow her on https://newagemompreneurs.in/member/Jasjit-chugh https://www.in...

Sushama Chitnis, Swedanika & Travel Pulse

Image
Sushama began her career by working in the travel industry for almost 15 years till 2015, when she began to feel the need to stop working for someone else and instead start working independently. Once she made up her mind, the next big question was which sector to venture into. There were three verticals that Sushama was keen on- travel, food and clothing. She believed each of these was an evergreen industry in India. However, there were challenges involved in each. Her prior knowledge in the travel sector made it relatively easier to start out with. In food she decided to opt for pickles and in clothing she began promoting Pathani sarees and hand painted kurtis and dupattas . The idea was that at least one of the three verticals would take off. The travel agency worked really well till the pandemic hit in 2020, grinding all travel to a halt. That was when Sushama decided she needed to focus on the other verticals. While pickles were a segment...

Pooja Nayak & Studio Ekah

Image
On completion of her Masters in Computer Applications, Pooja worked as a Consultant in an MNC for five years. Soon after, she shifted to Dubai where the opportunities in the IT industry were limited. Pooja did a few short stints in Digital Marketing but soon discovered that recruiters were showing a marked lack of interest in hiring a young woman with children. Pooja threw herself into becoming a full-time mom but as years passed by, she missed her financial independence and having a life outside of her home. Looking back, it was actually becoming a mom that pushed her to do something for herself. Majority of women are fond of Indian traditional jewellery. Pooja always had a keen interest in wedding and occasion wear jewellery styling. On one of her visits to India for a wedding, Pooja decided to do something about her interest in the field and reach out to manufacturers. The plan i...

Charu Arora & Dips n Chutneys by Charu

Image
Looking back, Charu gives her kids the credit for turning her into an entrepreneur. Watching her kids lick and finish up even the last bite of the dips that she made at home gave her immense pleasure. Whenever there was an occasion- get-togethers, birthdays, anniversaries, Charu found herself being lovingly coaxed to make dips; soon not just for family but also for extended family and friends! Soon the idea took root in her mind and she started the ball rolling! Being a history major, establishing a business came with a new set of changes. Charu prefers calling them changes rather than challenges since she believes that when one is naturally inclined towards doing something with vigour and passion, the challenges don’t seem i...

Garima Ahuja and It’s My Getaway

Image
It was when Garima booked a few holidays from various online portals and travel agents that she realised how very difficult it was to trust someone with an itinerary which was satisfactory in all aspects. The online companies ended up forgetting the customer once they received the complete payment! That was when Garima decided she needed to start organising holidays for travellers who didn’t want run-of-the-mill packages and were looking for a tailor-made itinerary; one which would provide 100% accountability and availability even after the payment was made. Garima always knew that she didn’t want to do a 9-5 job but wanted to be an entrepreneur. Life soon gave her the opportunity to start her own venture. She soon discovered that establishing the business was the simple part. The challenge was to convince people to change their way of travelling. Garima disliked it when people covered eight cities in 15-18 days. She wanted to encourage peopl...
