Ranita Uppal & The Turtle Box
Turtle Box was born from the union of Ranita’s love for food and travel. Ranita comes from a fusion of two food cultures, being a Bengali married to a Punjabi. Daily experiments with food and tweaking old recipes is a daily affair in her kitchen.
Having travelled the world with
her job at McKinsey, Ranita was busy bringing up her kids in New Delhi when she
felt the urge to do something new – and what could be more exciting than
combining travel experiences with food?
One sleepless night before
Diwali, when the family was trying to decide what to gift friends for Diwali
and didn’t want to get stuck with the usual mithai, chocolates and nuts, Ranita
suddenly thought of Turkish sweets, and immediately had the urge to experiment.
Poppy seeds came to mind, as did mixed nuts in honey – and just like that the
first flavour was created. It became a super hit amongst family and friends.
And thus, began her quest to curate new flavours to satiate her well-travelled
palate.
On one of her trips, she picked
up a small glass turtle as a souvenir from Murano after being mesmerized by its
glass blowers. It marked the beginning of her turtle collections; not realizing
that her love for turtles would give a name to her new venture. Since she
started four years back, Ranita has turned her 65-year-old mother-in-law into a
production manager at Turtle Box, because … It’s never too late to start.
Turtle Box uses mostly natural
sweeteners like honey, maple syrup, date syrup and jaggery. When they need
sugar, they try to use healthier variants like brown sugar, coconut sugar or
sulphur-free sugar. Their aim is to keep the health benefits of the nuts and dry
fruits intact. Their uniqueness lies in the fact that from cutting to chopping
to mixing to grinding, everything is handmade to order, allowing them to
customize everything down to the flavour.
Here’s a sneak peek
into some of their most popular products:
Mixed nuts in honey
and poppy seeds
Maple glazed walnuts
Dates with pista and
cardamom
Chatpatta fig and
apricot
Saffron infused aam papad

Pink peppercorn
paprika mixed nuts
If you are looking to try out global flavours, be it pink
peppercorn from Brazil, or dates from Saudi Arabia or Kithul syrup from Sri
Lanka, Turtle Box is the place to go!
