Jyotika Israni Malhotra and MammaWise
As a first-time mommy, Jyotika wanted to make sure that her baby had everything and anything she needed or might need. She was excited and did tons of research to enable her to find the best of everything for her baby. Within a few months of the baby’s arrival, Jyotika realised that more than half the stuff she bought hadn’t even been used once!
Jyotika soon came to the
conclusion that the thing with baby stuff is that what one baby might take to,
the other might not and parents only get to know about this once they have already
bought the stuff. Every parent can never get enough for their children, but
once they’re done with those things, it is very hard to part with them or
simply dispose them off; resulting in tons of stuff lying around in everyone’s
houses.
Jyotika started
researching online for a solution and soon discovered there existed a huge gap
in the market in the arena of upcycling. There was no comprehensive platform or
marketplace for sustainably up-cycling baby favourite belongings or for buying
pre-loved baby stuff. This was when Jyotika conceptualized MammaWise - a
platform that aimed to help find new homes for babies’ most prized possessions
and also helped parents find a variety of pre-loved stuff for the little ones.
Jyotika had been in the US
working in the field of Finance for 15 years before she moved back to India and
became a mother. Starting a business from scratch in a new country without any
prior knowledge of what it entailed was a big challenge. But Jyotika was
determined to go ahead and contribute to the cause of sustainability and so
slowly but surely MammaWise became a reality.
Jyotika soon realised that
MammaWise was a win-win situation for the clients on both ends; the buyer and
the seller. The buyer got a product in a great condition at an amazing
discounted price while the seller got to de-clutter along with a chance of
earning back some of what they spent. Soon after MammaWise came into existence,
there was a lockdown because of the pandemic. Several clients who otherwise
would have gotten stuff from friends and family overseas were suddenly at a
loss. They turned to MammaWise to fulfil their needs and Jyotika started
receiving great feedback. Her client base expanded and recommended her further
on social media which has helped MammaWise to grow exponentially in the past
year.
Within a month of
starting MammaWise, Jyotika was contacted by a fellow mom Smriti Kedia who believed
in the same cause and wanted to be a part of the venture. Soon Smriti became a
cofounder and there has been no looking back since then! Their shared ideals
and ideas make the arrangement a success. Smriti
has around 10 years of work experience with architectural studios. She has worn several hats in
the arena of managing sales, customer relationships and overall design journeys
for customers. She is a passionate mompreneur and loves spending time with her
2-year-old son.
Jyotika and Smriti still feel a thrill every time they manage to get a client a pre-loved product at a great price!
Jyotika is a passionate traveller, the result of having grown up in five countries! She loves to explore and experiment with world cuisines and food. She has a 23 months old daughter who is the pride and joy of her life.
Smriti
is fond of dancing and has trained in several dance forms. She is also an avid
reader and enjoys cooking occasionally.
