Tanvi Sharma and The Oia Life

Tanvi always wanted to work independently and be an entrepreneur. The desire to create something that she could call hers was strong within her.

Tanvi spent around 10 years working in the corporate sector. Looking back, she believes that while she learned a tremendous amount during her tenure there, she also found it restricting her potential in many ways. Somewhere deep down she knew, that she would one day be running her own business.

Tanvi decided to put all the plans on hold after her son was born and took a sabbatical from work. Then the pandemic hit.  The first year went into readjusting their lives and coping with the new normal. In June 2021, Tanvi decided to take the initiative and follow her dreams. And so Tanvi the mompreneur was born!

Tanvi has always been fascinated with jewellery. She recalls choosing her first pair of earrings when she was barely 10 years old. She still remembers the smile on her face and the time she spent admiring them. That was when her love affair with jewellery began. So much so that Tanvi first chooses what jewellery to wear and then decides on the clothes!

The fashion industry, especially the jewelry has evolved so much in the last decade. While we still love our gold and diamond, women today want to experiment with different metals, beads and cloth jewelry. We all have the girl in us, who still wants to feel free, young, vibrant, full of dreams and Tanvi believes that fashion jewelry is the bridge which connects the two. She also wants to send out the message that no one is too old to experiment with and carry off fashion jewellery-it’s for all ages.

A business started during the pandemic came with its own challenges. Movement of goods was crippled and it took longer to connect with the right kind of vendors, manufacturers, artisans and karigars. Tanvi and her team had to come up with alternative means of communicating which was challenging in the beginning but gradually got better.

Tanvi also discovered a huge shift in how the house ran once she had an additional hat to wear. She considers herself lucky to have a supportive family who is encouraging and understanding.

The story behind the name Oia is interesting. Tanvi was on a trip to Greece with her sister in the summer of 2016. While they were in Santorini, they decided to visit the most talked about site there – Oia and that is where the story and journey of her brand began.

The brand – The.Oia.Life came into existence in August, 2021. The brand name drew its inspiration from the beautiful village of Oia. Tanvi believes that Oia jewellery, just like the village, reflects a bit of simplicity, elegance and charm.

Tanvi and her team focus on carefully creating and curating pieces that echo the magic of modern and traditional designs so that there is something for everyone. In Greece Oia is pronounced ‘ee ya’. For Tanvi it felt like a Eureka moment, ‘oh yeah’. The moment when you see something and know you are meant to have it-that’s the feeling she strives to bring out in her customers.

Dance, Movement and Travel are an integral part of Tanvi’s soul. She has spent 5 years learning jazz and 7 years learning contemporary dance forms. She makes it a point to spend sometime during the day learning something new in dance. Her most recent fascination is the Hula Hoop. Tanvi believes that movement helps in physical and mental wellbeing. It is this belief that led her to complete her certification in Dance and Movement Therapy.

She loves travelling and finds it therapeutic. Music and photography are other things that she really loves to do.

Tanvi has a 4-year-old child named Dhruv who keeps her on her toes.
